Visualizing a helpful mental health concept
Where it came from
A few years ago I was working through a tough bout of depression and I was reaching out to some friends and colleagues for advice. One piece of advice I was provided was this metaphor. One about persistence and acknowledging how mental health is a long and difficult journey.
It was one of the many things that helped me through that time, so I wanted to amplify it somehow in case it could help anyone else.
How it's made
The majority of visuals are made using Blender with fairly basic geometry and shading. The key to the illustrative look is using Grease Pencil to generate procedural outlines that can also be made to "jiggle" using noise modifiers.
In combination with that, some clear storyboarding, and a quick timeline, this came together surprisingly well. I'm quite proud of this and hope to do more in the mental health area in the future!
